Clean Surfaces and Spaces with Light Disinfection Systems
In settings where infection control is of primary importance, disinfection using LED light can be used in conjunction with traditional infection control practices to kill or inactivate bacteria and viruses to make surfaces and environments safer. Lighting systems can be installed with LED modules that output specific UV wavelengths (UV-A, UV-B or UV-C) depending on the viral or bacterial disinfection being targeted. When combined with LED intelligent controllers, the lighting system can be configured to switch between a disinfection mode and a general white light mode. Being able to toggle between modes adds flexibility to spaces, being safe for general lighting use while occupied, then when unoccupied, switching to clean mode for environmental and surface disinfection.
Healthcare
Disinfection in clinical or patient rooms can be integrated into lighting systems with general lighting. When the room is in use, task or general lighting can be used, but when not in use, the system can be switched over to specifically selected wavelengths of UV light for disinfection. This method of disinfection can be used as an added element of disinfection of rooms between patients or during off-hours when the room isn’t occupied.
Commercial
Food manufacturing and packing facilities can use UV light to reduce viruses or bacteria and keep food and environments safe, as well as keep microbes away, which can affect the safety of the food. UV light for disinfection is used because it is safe, low maintenance, and can eliminate the need for chemicals or pesticides. UV-C can be used to target specific viruses when spaces are not occupied. Other commercial applications for disinfection lighting include H-VAC systems, and high traffic environments such as offices and airports.
ARKALUMEM
Create a Light Disinfection System Using APT Intelligent Controllers
Arkalumen offers APT controllers that help implement disinfection technology within fixtures in a simple and flexible manner. When an APT-CV2 or APT-CV5 controller is paired with a multi-channel LED module with both white LEDs and specifically selected UV LEDs, a disinfection system can be configured with different mixes of white and UV outputs in different modes. For example, the APT controller can allow for an occupied mode with white light and a disinfection mode with UV light to be implemented or, if safe, a mode with a combination of both.
The APT intelligent controllers come in multiple hardware versions suited for various wired and wireless lighting control protocols. The APT-CV2 and APT-CV5 product families are powered by standard constant voltage drivers and enable precise control over 2 and 5 constant current outputs respectively. With approved drivers and LED modules in place, integrating the APT intelligent controller provides a brain to the disinfection system.
